An Ceòl air Feadh na Fèinne - the music of what happens! is an innovative tri-lingual piece bringing together storytelling, singing and music performance art forms. Focussing on Sgeulachdan na Fèinne (Tales of the Fianna) that are deeply rooted in Gaelic culture in Scotland and Ireland the piece shares epic stories of some of the main heroes and legends.

The songs and stories of the Fianna have been at the heart of the shared Gaelic cultural tradition in Scotland and Ireland for centuries, with the legendary characters of Fionn MacCumhnaill and his warrior band, the Fianna, Diarmaid and Gràinne and others known by all members of society until fairly recently.

The project supported by Bòrd na Gàidhlig through Maoin Colm Cilleand and administrated by TRACs brought together five top exciting musicians and storytellers from Scotland and Ireland who collaborated initially in Argyll and latterly in Donegal.

During the residency in Argyll the group explored and recorded eight multi-art form tracks of song, storytelling and music in Gàidhlig, Geailge and English. One of these tracks Laoidh an Amadain Mhòr (Lay of the Great Fool) which exists in Scotland and Ireland folklore launched in December 2024 via Tuath a de Dannan podcast.

Further tracks will be published in 2025 in an audio book collection. An Ceòl ar Feadh na Fèinne - The Music of What Happens Further development at a Donegal residency enabled the group to shape the piece into a 55min theatre performance incorporating different threads from the mythical and legends tales and songs woven with authentic musical accompaniment.

The group performed at International Scottish Storytelling Festival 2023 and Celtic Connections 2024. The performance appeals to people with an interest in the legendary tales of the Fèinne that are central to connecting Gaelic culture in Scotland and Ireland.

It can be a first step into the magical and fantastical world of the Fèinne with its mythical monsters and magical characters. The artists will engage the audience taking them on an imaginative Finlagan journey adventuring with the Gaelic superheroes!
